SOME DAY SOON
The last time I saw you
We were running in opposite directions We waved a hurried hello
Said we'd meet-up tomorrow
I was rushing to buy another book
You were rushing to buy some wine
Little did we know
Tomorrow would become another stance in time
Little did we know
That tomorrow would become whenever It's the silliest of things I miss
But not seeing you I miss the most
Oh the times we squandered away Before tomorrow went so far away
We never expected this life to end
And tomorrow is as far back
As the last time I saw your smile
(Trumpet Solo)
Some day soon
You and I will turn the corner Some day soon
Some day soon
We’ll find time...

CLOCKS WITHOUT A PENDULUM
Clocks without a pendulum Swings without a child Coffin maker’s ill wind Contagion’s running wild Time is on a journey
On a train without a track
This is our world's antebellum. We're never looking back Never looking back.
Sweet holy Mary and the saints without a crown
Greys upon the sunset
Bells without their chime
Hymns without a chorus
Life has no refrain
Death's dancing in the limelight Death's stolen every sound
That old man’s stolen everything...

When This is Over

WHEN THIS IS OVER
When this is over
We’ll go to Paris.
Late November,
When the Beaujolais is new: Come up at San Michelle Stay at our old hotel
First stop - La Palette And drink a bottle or two.
Book a table at Allard
Eat all our favourite things
Escargots, steak tartare
Washed down with steely Chablis
And the matre d, (I pray he’s spared) will correct my French with his sneer. But I’ll still hold him dear.
Then we’ll drop down to Aux Trois Mailletz
Drink Poire Williams
And listen to Jose
Then back to the hotel
Too drunk to make love
But we’ll do it the next morning And agree - never again.
But we’ll change our minds at lunch and have a bottle of Rosé
Then another one for the road
And then we’ll stroll down by the Seine No time to visit the Louvre
We’ll do it another day
Yes, we’ll be back in the swing When this is all over.
La de ral de, lal de ral
Lal de ral de lal de lal de ral
But we’ll change our minds at lunch and have a bottle of Rosé
Then another one for the road
And then we’ll stroll down by the Seine No time to visit the Louvre
We’ll do it another day
Yes, we’ll be back in the swing When this is all over.

Survive (Happy Birthday)

SURVIVE - (Happy Birthday)
The wind shall sweep autumn's leaves Sunshine will dazzle midst wispy webs Soon we’ll be together again
Hugs shall embrace our missing kisses Fear will rest itself
unwritten songs will be sung
Rested rhythms need to tremble and purr Saturday night jazzy Blues
Midsummer's perfumed bouquets of love Let's plan to value life's gifts
Less is often the more that we needed
We can survive to sense hope's enticement.
And we’ll sing
Happy birthday to you
Happy Birthday again
Happy Happy Birthday to you It’s good to touch you again.

The Limelight

THE LIMELIGHT
Silence whispers a warning It rattles off the tin Grieving is all around us Pestilence wears a grin Shadows in the hallway Azrael's doing the rounds No where to escape to Freedom’s out of bounds
Cast-a-nets-click a-death-march LIfe’s gasps starched in fever La Peste wears no sympathy
It reaps what it can find
No respect for distance Taking never giving Attend the final breath Fortitude is undermined.
Sweet holy Mary
And the saints without a crown Greys upon the sunset
Bells without their chime Hymns without a chorus
Life has no refrain
Death's dancing in the limelight Death's stolen every sound Stolen everything...
Clocks without a pendulum Swings without a child Coffin maker’s ill wind Contagion’s running wild Time is on a journey
On a train without a track
This is our world's antebellum. We're never looking back Never looking back
Never looking back.
Sweet holy Mary
And the saints without a crown Greys upon the sunset
Bells without their chime
Hymns without a chorus
Life has no refrain
Death's dancing in the limelight He's at it again
Death's dancing in the limelight He's at it again
Death's stolen everything
That old man's stolen everything...

Lily's Lament

LILY’S LAMENT
I want to expel inner angst Let it fly beyond my reach
I want to play a concertina Breathe a passion of tunes
Ripples of notes pulsating
I want to cry a wail of tears Screeching from my soul Reaching out to touch you
CHORUS
A shiver down my spine
Spirits congregated somewhere on high
The old man in the moon
had forgotten to rise
Nightfall played a symphony to let tomorrow shine Let it shine
I want to hold and hug you To meld as one eternally
I want to lose this distortion Finding clarity out of dark
To hear a happier silence
Trust placed upon a wishing star A trickle of lament came calling Isolation steals time's motivation
My innocence thrives within fear
As I gaze into night's galaxy of awe Flounder not for you are not alone There's prosper in your repair.

TOUCH
Out of bounds and distant for now Beyond the feel of caress and kiss
As I peer into the soul of your heart
I lose myself under a perfumed haze Sandlewood spices from other days Connects to another time and place
I can't imagine that kind of freedom Escape is more clandestine than ever Hidden away from the eyes of the world Fantasy merges with unreal reality Gloved fingers deny impulsive contact Emotions keep themselves far within...

Midnight Cowboy

MIDNIGHT COWBOY
Temptation steels along the curb around midnight A cowboy in his glad rags of retire
Swigging from a bottle of mellow moonshine
He dances an empty tango all alone
Some say it's the idle words of a gambler Craving sunshine from a tear
Some say damnation finally got us
Cussed out by curves and spikes upon a plateau The devil's dealing chance upon a whim
The devil's dealing chance upon a whim...
No more dancing cheek to cheek with old Nancy No more throwing caution to the wind
No more making hay by making merry
No more the liberty of happenstance
He drums out a rhapsody upon a bottle
Its rattle freaks the eerie attendance
He taps his boot upon a vacant stool Suddenly the emptiness comes to life
Amidst his sadness he glimpses Nancy Dancing in the shadows of the night
Nancy, dancing in the shadows of the night...
No more dancing cheek to cheek with old Nancy No more throwing caution to the wind
No more making hay by making merry
No more the liberty of happenstance

WONDERLUDE
Remember when clouds were candyfloss fluffy As butter melts upon breakfast pancakes
You promised me a world
Beyond dreamy slumber
Those were the days before today...
Somewhere in the rush of panicked confusion Last orders cleared the busy bar-room Footsteps pattered towards shelter
We fell into the nervous city gloom.
Now I look out from my world of cosy comfort
I see shadows larking in the moonlight
A kaleidoscope of stars reveal the scene
While rhythm steals a tune from a vacant violin.
Stepping outside into the raw unknown
The rainy earth feels strange beneath my feet Distant eyes avert the gaze of every stranger Uneasiness tenses every face.
Within the mayhem of moody madness
Inspiration lounged alongside its own freewill
Love collected bouquets of dandelion and daisy
We shared the wonder through this yestermorrow faze..
There's mystery within the dark enchant of night There's mystery within the dark enchant of night There's mystery within the dark enchant of night Hushed and hurried in our flight.
